IM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HAIR (DREADLOCK QUESTION)?

okay, im gonna try to make this as short as possible.lol....i put my hair into dreadlocks about a month ago....and since then, my head has been constantly itching/burning/so sore i cant even touch my head without it hurting .... its gets worse everyday, i still have the rubberbands in, and when i change them it gets worse, i think its cause there in so tight....is this normal though???

.....my second problem is: everytime i get in the shower or even get my hair wet at all, they start to come undone(especially at the roots)... last time i got in the shower, i had to completly redo about half the dreads on my head.... how long before i can get my hair wet and not have to worry about messing them up??? it really frustrating. i dont use dreadwax or any other products on 'em, do i need to, would that help???

btw, please DO NOT answer if you dont know what ur talking about..IM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HAIR (DREADLOCK QUESTION)?
Well, maybe you should wash your hair and get the dreadlocks out...if its hurting your head to keep them, might as well get rid of them. If youre determined to keep them, I guess try the dreadwax.IM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY HAIR (DREADLOCK QUESTION)?
well yes your head is itchy because the dirt probably hides inside ur hair and it hurts because it is on too tight.. trust me.. it happens to me with ponytails.. except i dont get itchy.. i would recommend you taking off the dread locks unless you want to use dreadwax.
I would take the dreads out of your hair first.

Ino that is not what you want to hear but trust me I had a problem with extensions I took them out and let my head heal once it was starting to feel better I put them back in. Thats what you should do. If you get the head thing again then it is something to do with the dreads.

I hope I helped. Try getting head and shoulders mint shampoo I did that and it made my head feel soo much better faster.

and it feels soo clean
you really shouldn't need dread wax, it only slows down the growth of your hair, and makes your dreads look and feel really gross.

i really don't know why there coming out constantly. and for them hurting that is normal, you've only had them for a month, and its gonna hurt putting knots in your hair.

i really hoped i helped

Ok first of all take out those horrid rubber bands and leave them out they are pulling at your hair/scalp and will cause breakage.

Second what kind of dread locking method did you use? if it was rip and twist then that method is very rough and always causes pain on the scalp you just have to wait the pain out with that method.

If you just back combed it then those symptoms are unusual and you need to remove the bands and spray witch hazel or a mix of witch hazel %26amp; a few drops of tea tree oil (its not very greasy) on your scalp and dreads it will help rid you of the irritation and help keep your hair/scalp clean between washes. You can use all natural aloe vera gel found @ health food stores to sooth your scalp, condition dreads, and help hold them together, it washes out easily with a good shampooing.

There is also a cool product that is sold at pet stores its called Veterinarian's Best Quick Clean Waterless Dog/Cat bath, its a good waterless shampoo that you don't have to wash out it comes in a light foam dispenser and has all natural ingredients and doesn't cause a ton of build up and smells great.

Use shampoos for sensitive scalps look for good ingredients like tea tree, aloe, jojoba, rosemary, sage, etc. Oh and you should never wait longer than a full week (7 days) to wash your hair no matter what. Just pour a mix of shampoo/water over your dreads and genitally massage/smooth into hair with out harsh rubbing and rinse really well under a gentile but steady flow of water. And never go to bed with wet dreads it encourages mold mildew to grow on/in them so dry them well by air or hair dryer.

Also you might want to look into the back combing/crochet hook/needle method to help your dreads lock up faster and tighter, just go to youtube and look up backcombing/crochet needle dreads and there should be several tutorials.

That method is not to be confused with flipping your dreads through their roots by making a hole at the root and bringing the tail of the dread through, if that is what you did you can only wait for the extreme tightness to fade while you roots grow out or you could comb out those problem dreads with conditioner and start over.

Dread wax is really bad don't fall for the hype. Simple chemistry it is a hydrophobic substance which is why it is hard to remove from hair it causes build up, attracts dirt, bugs, lint you name it and dull s the surface of you dreads the only way to remove wax is to cut your dreads or use boiling water/vinegar mix several times to melt it out.

Sorry for the long post hope it helped, peace.
With the rubberbands, take them out, you dont really need them. If you do use rubberbands, never do them tightly as you are going to be in lots of pain and also, your roots will not dread and you will have a major problem with loose hairs at the root.

Another factor that could be causing pain around the scalp is having them knotted too close to the scalp. Ideally there should be about an inch of undreaded hair from the scalp. crocheted dreaads are usually the main cause of pain at the scalp because they are crocheted too tightly and too close to the scalp. If this is the case, then let the roots grow straight for a few weeks without root-rubbing or anything like that.

Itchiness is something that can last for months and it is simply because the scalp is not used to having permanently sectioned hair. It throws the natural oil production thing out of whack and your scalp does itch. Also, an itchy scalp is a good sign that you need to shampoo your dreads (with residue-free shampoo of course).

You can use peppermint spray to relieve itchies or dilute some apple cider vinegar with water and spray onto your scalp. Rinse after 30 minutes. The itchies do get better though.

With the dreads coming undone in the shower, it could be that the backcombing was not done thoroughly enough in the beginning. It is safe to rebackcomb your hair up to about 3-4 months of age. It might be an idea to give them a good backcombing again but just be very, very gentle and try not to cause any hair breakage. Personally, i feel that if your hair is over 6 inches long, then you dont really need to use rubberbands. You should be able to get your dreads wet without worrying that they are going to fall out. An idea that you can try is to cut up a pair of pantyhose and pull it over your dreads and lather your dreads up through the pantyhose and rinse out thoroughly.

Without a picture, I cant really give you any more advice than what i have given you. If you would like to join dreadlockforums.com you can post a pic there of your dreads (especially the roots) so I can see where all the trouble is coming from.

dont give up yet though!
